Treatment for Addiction & Dual-Diagnosis Disorders
Getting to the core issue is priority one, and it is often a “dual-diagnosis issue”
Over recent years, medical/behavioral science has made great strides in the field of mental health & illness, which includes all forms of addiction (including alcoholism).
Throughout those years, three critical realities came to light. One, nearly 50% of those suffering from drug & alcohol addiction also have an underlying mental illness, which is referred to as dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders. Two, many of these people are not even aware they have an underlying mental health condition. Three, not diagnosing and treating the underlying mental illness can dramatically reduce their quality of sobriety, and increase their likelihood for future relapse.
